Rev. Mitch Houston
I am a life-long Methodist. I’ve had various appointments throughout the great state of South Carolina, most recently serving as the Lead Pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. Over the years I have served the South Carolina Annual Conference on various committees and boards. I currently serve on the Conference Committee of Finance and Administration and on the Board of Trustees at Spartanburg Methodist College. I have enjoyed community service throughout my ministry. While in the midlands, I have been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. My passion is to help the church be a servant in the community. I am a native of Easley, SC attending Easley High School, Spartanburg Methodist College, Clemson University and Candler School of Theology. I am married to Martha an educator who retired after working 32 years in the public school system. We have two sons. Benjamin lives in Clemson and works at Clemson University. Christopher is recently married to Danielle and lives and works in Charleston. We have no grandchildren, but gladly welcome hearing about yours! We do have a dog named Mason who we rescued about 13 years ago.
Rev. Scott Adams
The Rev. Scott Adams is an Associate Pastor at Bethany UMC and serves as the lead minister of pastoral visitation to our ever growing congregation.
On November 1, we welcomed to our church staff Rev. Scott Adams. Scott is an ordained United Methodist Elder originally from the Louisiana Conference. He has been in ordained ministry for 30 years. His wife Nancy is a native of Memphis, TN, and they have been married 33 years. They have two sons; Ross is 28 and Mitchell, 26. Pastor Scott recently retired from the Air Force after 30 years as a chaplain, active and reserve. He made several trips to the Waron-Terror, including January-July this year in Qatar. Nancy’s mother, Nancy Pool, lives with Scott and Nancy and will also become an active part of Bethany. The three of them moved to Summerville from Northeast Louisiana two-and-a-half years ago…simply because they like Summerville!
Rev. Adriane Burgess
The Rev. Adriane Burgess, associate pastor at Bethany UMC, joined the ministerial staff in August 2009. A native of Greenville, South Carolina, she grew up in an intellectually rich, musically talented and faith-filled United Methodist family. Adriane completed her undergraduate study at the University of Virginia, where she attended on an ROTC scholarship and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in government. Adriane holds a Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Maryland and completed a pastoral care residency at the Veteran Affairs hospital in Atlanta. She attended Emory University’s Candler School of Theology as a Woodruff Scholar and graduated with honors. Adriane continues to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. She has a heart for the ministerial areas of worship, mission and pastoral care.
Adriane and her husband, Craig, have two sons, Zack and Zander.
Will is a native of Easley, SC. He began to hear the call to ministry upon graduation from Clemson University, but ended up in business for the next 10 years. He spent six of those years as a Chick-fil-A Operator. In 2013, God’s call was very obvious, and Will answered by joining Bethany’s staff. He enjoys running, reading, and pouring into the lives of young people. He desires to see a generation of youth and young adults passionately following Jesus, and taking serious the call to discipleship. Will and his wife, Diana, have three children.
