Pat Garrison Travels from Miss. to Thank Mission Team

Camp meetings continue July 9 & 16

Pat Garrison will join the Bethany family in worship at the 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. services on Sunday, July 9. Pat's Moss Point, Mississippi, home was rebuilt in January by a Bethany mission team. She will describe her experiences after Hurricane Katrina and the work God was able to accomplish by using a team of willing Bethany members.

Sunday is also the second of three Camp Meetings, tradition in the United Methodist Church dating back to 1800’s. In those days, worshippers would gather for several days of preaching and hymn singing. Please remember to dress casually for worship on July 9 and 16, as we recall our Camp Meeting tradition.

Vacation Bible School Begins Monday

VBS Leaders Will Meet Following 11:15 Worship on Sunday

Droves of children from Bethany and the Summerville community will fill the church hallways, July 10-14, as Bethany Church hosts “The Adventure of the Treasure Seekers.” More than 300 children are expected to attend Vacation Bible School this year. The children (ages four through those completing the sixth grade) will be treated to an adventure full of fun and creative Bible-based activities, as they dig into the Bible to find God’s promises. VBS will meet from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Vacation Bible School will also involve dozens of adults, who have volunteered to share their faith and love with the children. Please pray for the children and leaders of VBS throughout the week. Vacation Bible School leaders will meet for lunch Sunday following the 11:15 a.m. worship service. After a lunch meeting in the Fellowship Hall, they will set up rooms throughout the church for VBS.

One of the way Christians grow is through service. Our Lord said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” but you don’t have to go on a mission trip to serve. You can do so right here at Bethany United Methodist Church. There is a place at Bethany for every one of our members to serve. Here are some areas with an urgent need for volunteers:

Love to Stitch? Join the Bethany Quilters!

The Bethany Quilters have a yearly project making baby quilts for the Salvation Army for Christmas. The quilts are made at our homes and donated to the Salvation Army representative at our annual Christmas party. Anyone who would like to donate a quilt is welcome. The children are in need and love the quilts.

The quilters have voted to give a financial gift to the church nursery for any needed items. The money is earned by stitching other people’s quilts, and we have a long waiting list of people wanting us to do their stitching for them.

The Bethany Quilters meet on Tuesdays form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old parsonage house. Stop by to quilt or visit!
