Welcome to the First Issue of Bethany's Email News!

Well here it is! You’re receiving this first edition of Bethany Links about a week later than planned, but putting together the church's first email newsletter has been a bigger project than we had imagined! Thank you to everyone who signed up and has been so patient while we put this thing together! We hope you'll find Bethany Links to be a quality, informative newsletter and that it will become an eagerly anticipated addition to your mailbox every week!

You'll find some standard features in each issue of Bethany Links. In addition to features and news you need to know, every issue will include these columns:

·         Preparing for Sunday: This column will list the time, place and minister for each worship service the following Sunday. We'll also try to provide the sermon topics and scripture, so you can spend some quiet time reading and preparing for the weekend worship services. For more details about the order of worship, take an early look at the Sunday bulletins, which are posted on our web site every Friday.

·         The Bethany Family: Who's in the hospital? Whose birthday is coming up? Read this column to find out.

·         This Week at Bethany: Here, you'll find a calendar of the activities for the coming week.

·         Upcoming Events: In this column, we'll take a closer look at programs or events that are a few weeks out. Today's issue includes information about a special Bethany Bash concert, new Bash classes and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Be sure to check this column regularly for events you'll want to add to your personal calendar!

·         Be a Blessing: One of the way Christians grow is through service. Our Lord said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and those who serve know the truth of that statement. But you don’t have to go on a mission trip to serve. You can do so right here at Bethany United Methodist Church. Teaching, cooking, coaching, being a Fellowship Friend, helping with our web site and bulletin boards, being an advisor to our youth…. The list goes on and on. There is a place at Bethany for every one of our members to serve. Each week, we'll highlight a few of those areas, so check this column regularly to see how you can help!

·         Important Links: Check here for links to our church web sites, as well as to important United Methodist web sites and more.

·         Contact Information: In this column, you'll find Bethany phone numbers and office hours, as well as the church’s after-hours emergency phone number. The Bethany Prayer Chain contact numbers will always be listed here, too.

Bethany Links will also have a Special Worship column during Advent and Lent, and special columns will come and go throughout the year.

Now that Bethany Links is finally a reality, future issues will arrive in your mailbox late in the week. Expect to receive your copy on Thursday or Friday. (The delivery date will depend on the week's workflow and how busy you've kept me and Communications Council volunteers!) Your next issue should arrive on April 6th or 7th.

Again, thanks for signing up for Bethany Links and for being patient while we put together this first issue. If you have suggestions or ideas for future issues, please let me know!

God Bless,

Beth Allain

Church Web Site Additions On the Way

Bethany is working to improve the church’s web site (www.bethany-umc.com) so it's easier for you to stay on top of church news and keep in touch with other members of the Bethany family. While we had hoped to have the new additions ready in March, we're a little behind schedule in setting up all the new features. I promise, the wait will be worthwhile, however, so please continue to be patient as Communications Council volunteers work to get these new features ready for you. Here are some features to watch for in April:

·         An online church directory

·         The ability to manage your own membership profile

·         An online event calendar

·         Online registration and payment for events, including Bethany Bash meals, youth activities and summer camps

·         Tools to improve small group communications

·         Tools to improve communication for Bethany committees

Thanks, again!

Beth

Bethany Senior Girls Win as S.C. Methodist Youth Converge on Summerville for Basketball Tournament

The Bethany senior girls’ team captured the state champion title when March Madness swept into Summerville, March 10-12. Forty-two teams from across South Carolina took to the court for the annual S.C. United Methodist Youth Basketball Tournament. Teams were comprised of junior and senior high girls and boys who are members of, or active in, United Methodist churches within the state. Teams competed for the championship in each age level, as well as for the grand championship trophy, the Mitch Milford Memorial Sportsmanship Award.

The Bethany senior girls’ team captured the state champion title in the senior girls division. The Boone Hill UMC junior girls, Trinity UMC (Spartanburg) junior boys and Aldersgate UMC (Greenville) senior boys also earned state titles in their divisions.

The Buncombe Street UMC #2 junior boys’ team, from Greenville, was awarded the grand championship sportsmanship trophy considered to be the highest award of the tournament.

Look for more details in your April Bethany Beacon newsletter.
