Bethany
United Methodist Church is reaching out to help the
survivors of the hurricanes that blew through the Gulf
Coast.
Mission Trip:
In January
2006, a mission
team from Bethany United Methodist Church traveled to
Pascagoula, Mississippi, to build a home for Sister Pat Garrison.
Pat has worked in prison ministries for the past 30 years and
has led hundreds of men to Christ. She completely lost her
home in when Hurricane Katrina swept through her town.
Monetary Support:
Bethany's
Global Missions Team has allocated $6,000 to
UMCOR (the United Methodist
Committee on Relief), $2,000 to the
American Red Cross and
$2,000 to the Salvation Army.
The Global
Missions has asked the congregation to contribute an
additional $40,000 for UMCOR relief programs. Beginning in
September 2005, on the first Sunday of each month, Bethany
has taken a special offering specifically for hurricane
relief.
Donations
are tax deductible. Here
are several ways to give:

-
You may also contribute
by check,
which you may place in the offering plates during Sunday
morning worship. Write the check to Bethany UMC,
designating "Katrina relief" in the message area of your

Health Kits and Flood Buckets:
Bishop Edward W. Paup, president
of
UMCOR (the United Methodist
Committee on Relief),
has issued emergency appeal for United Methodists and their
friends to supply health kits and flood buckets for
survivors of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.
"The need is desperate
throughout the area devastated by the storm, especially
among people who have been evacuated from their homes," he
said.
In response
to UMCOR's appeal, Bethany UMC is collecting flood buckets
and health kits, which will be sent to UMCOR for
distribution to Katrina survivors.
Kits
should be delivered to Bethany's Small Fellowship Hall or
Welcome Center. The Global Missions Committee will continue
to collect Health Kits and Flood Kits until Thanksgiving.
Two mission
trips have been scheduled to assist the victims of Katrina.
The dates are January 13-22 and June 4-17, 2006. We are in
need of sign-ups for those dates. No experience is
necessary. Sign up on the Global Mission board or in the
Welcome Center.
