Audio Tape Ministry

This ministry ensures the delivery of cassette tapes of Sunday morning worship services to Bethany members who are shut-ins. Contact Parish Pastor Reggie Rowell at (843) 873-1230 for information and to volunteer.

Care Team Ministry

I Peter 5:2 tells us to “care for the flock of God.” Because of the size of Bethany’s congregation (more than 2,700 members), our pastors realize they are limited as to the number of contacts they can make on a regular basis, yet they want all members of the congregation to know that the church cares for them. The Care Team is commissioned by our pastors to ensure that all members feel God’s care on a regular basis. The Care Team is comprised of a steering committee, shepherds, care givers and receivers.

Care givers attend an orientation and fill out a care giver application identifying them as ready for training. They participate in a four-hour training to learn the basic skills involved and the opportunities Bethany affords, which they can offer to others. After training, they stay in touch with their five receiver families on a quarterly basis for a period of two years.

Receivers are critical to the program. For a period of two years they “receive” the care extended by the care givers, as well as return that care to their care giver. They are active participants in a relationship that bonds them to each other and the church. After the two-year period, they can elect to remain as receivers or choose another position on the Team.

Shepherds are care givers to the care givers. After attending the care giver training and an additional class, shepherds extend guidance and care to their five care giver families. They also act as conduits between the steering committee and the care givers.

The Care Team Steering Committee, comprised of a staff member and nine members of the congregation, guides the growth and development of the Care Team. For information or to volunteer for the Care Team, contact Tim or Kathy McConnell at (843) 832-4583.

Holy Communion Receivers Ministry

Four times a year, volunteers in this ministry take Holy Communion to Bethany members who are unable to attend worship services at the church.

Loving Hands in Times of Need

The church is always responsible for reaching out with care and sensitivity to our members in times of need. A death in a family, the birth of a baby, a serious accident and a host of other happenings in life can each call for the support of our members by the church family.

Prayer Chain Ministry

Bethany's Prayer Chain exists to provide intentional prayer support for individuals and families who have special needs, as well as supporting the ongoing ministry of the church. In an effort to be accessible to all Bethany members, the prayer requests may be submitted to the Prayer Chain in several ways:

  • By calling Bethany UMC during office hours (843-873-1230);

  • By calling Donna Mobley (871-1576) or Alice Kinsey (873-2424) after hours; and

  • By emailing your prayer request to prayerchain@bethany-umc.com.

To put someone on the Bethany Prayer Chain, please first obtain the permission of the person in need of prayer.
