Going Deeper

In the Going Deeper Class we are committed to going deeper in our walk with Christ, in praying for each other, and in exploring the Sunday sermon topic. Our primary mission is supporting the Word and Table Service. We are multi-generational and enjoy participating in periodic social activities and community service projects. Room 124

Charles Peace

This class consists of mature couples and singles who share a close camaraderie and eagerly receive new comers into their group. Lessons are in an informal lecture style with class discussion based on the Uniform Series of International Bible lessons. The class is devoted to answering God’s call to serve others, support the church’s local and global missions, as well as numerous community charities. Members also support one another and strengthen their relationships through various fun social events throughout the year. Room 125

Friendship Circle

Friendship Circle

This large circle of friends is comprised of couples and singles in their mid 40’s to 80’s. Class sessions begin with coffee and refreshments as well as fellowship. We follow a lesson plan by informal lectures with rotating volunteers who teach and encourage diversified and lively discussions. This vivacious social group loves to get together for food, fun, and fellowship. Class members enjoy participating in “Supper Six”, an annual oyster roast, a class retreat at the beach, as well as other social events during the year. This class generously serves with both time and money to groups such as Murray Food Bank, Epworth Children’s Home, Oakbrook Retirement Home, Habitat for Humanity, and Meals on Wheels. Rm. 115

This intimate class of seniors is young at heart and joyful in spirit. After a time of fellowship, the class begins with hymns and continues with study. Class members also help nurture the spirits of their home bound members through visitations and giving them daily devotional and Bible study materials. Newcomers are always welcome to their class. Sue Knight

This is a welcoming and caring class of seniors mostly over age 60. Teaching is led in the traditional lecture style by Lloyd Ivey. Members open class with hymns of worship and praise, followed by recognition of birthdays and a lecture on the day’s lesson. The class closes with prayer concerns for members and others. Visitors of any age are welcomed and warmly greeted. Social activities are scheduled every two to three months and include a large banquet at Christmas. Class members actively support numerous local charities and mission organizations with periodic funding and their time and talents. Rm. 215 This is a 12 week class offered once a quarter to new members with the purpose of helping them find class- es, studies, and other opportunities within the Bethany community to encounter God’s word in the Bible. The class journeys through the Old and New Testaments and through a spiritual gifts assessment. The class is also open to current Bethany members who feel that they have little or no experience with God through His word or who are looking for a “jumpstart” into encounter- ing God in the Bible. Friends in Faith

This friendly and energetic class is comprised of “30, 40 and 50 somethings.” Curriculum often incorporates multimedia and small group discus- sions to explore life application of the Bible. This group enjoys many social activities, with and without children, including family picnics at the park, beach outings, ball games, adult oyster roasts, “Supper 8” and an annual Christmas party. Class members are committed to supporting local mission projects through participa- tion and fund raising. Rm. 115

Connections

This co-ed Sunday School class of all ages, welcomes Bethany visitors and new members, as well as the entire church community. Our class is ministry and mission centered, focusing on building new relationships. Our curriculumincludes scripture, building our Christian Faith, contemporary life-application studies and plenty of discussion. We use facilitator-driven group discussion approach with members. We meet socially several times a year and we look forward to meeting you. Room 239

Christian Family

This is a class of singles and couples in their 40’s to 60’s, many with school-aged and college-aged children, some of whom attend with their parents- creating a cross-generational environment. The class is led by Laura Knotts, who teaches by facilitating discussion,and excellent individual participation creates a small-group atmosphere. Lessons are Bible-based. Class members also participate in a variety of social gatherings throughout the year for fun and fellowship. Rm. 126

Providence

This class promotes a community of Christian friendship, seeking to grow in faith as they share their lives together. Class members are mid 20’s to 40’s, including singles and couples with and without children. They engage in a variety of curriculum formats, including Bible studies, topical book studies, lecture, discussion and videos. Class members enjoy frequent social activities, participate in local missions projects and mid-week bible study. Rm. 236

Searchers

This light-hearted and traditional class is comprised primarily of individuals age 50 and older, single and married, who are enjoying the prime of life. The class participates in a variety of Bible and topical studies through informal lesson and group discussion. Friendships are fostered through social gatherings three to four times a year. Rm. 118

Daily Bread

Led by retired Methodist minister, Dr. Jo Locklair, the class enjoys delving deep into the Bible and studying each book in meticulous detail. Dr. Locklair’s extensive knowledge of Hebrew history and culture provides added perspective, understanding and comprehension of the scripture. This class is all ages. Rm. 237

A Bible Study

LIFT

The LIFT class (Living In Fellowship Together) is a relatively new class comprised of young adults both single and married. The weekly lessons are biblically based and revolve around group discussion. LIFT members also participate in frequent outreach and fellowship opportunities. Come join us! Room 235

Sam Wood

A Bible Study

Sam Wood

This class is a diverse group of all ages, singles and couples and is led by Dr. Sam Wood. Class members grow through in-depth exploration of the books of the Bible, biblical history, religious and Methodist concepts, and real life application. Each lesson has an outline and discussion questions which generate member participation, as does Dr. Wood’s entertaining prompts and witty sense of humor. The class also has two social gatherings during the year, in the Spring and at Christmas. Room 240

This lively class for couples of all ages concen- trates on studying the books of the Bible by reading scripture during the week to prepare for open and candid discussion. Class members strive to put faith and learning into action as they care for each other and reach out to nurture and support families in need within the church and community. Friendships are deepened through social gatherings, such as dinners at members’ homes and an annual Christmas party. The class maintains an active prayer life, praying for concerns in our daily lives. Room 127
