Classes Offered in Fall 2006
A new slate
of Bethany Bash classes begins on August 23 and will
continue through November 15, with a two week break for the
Autumn Tea Room. Make plans to
come for supper at 5:30 p.m. Then stay for one of these
classes:
Basic Christianity: Led by Dr. Bob Howell. This class
starts at the beginning and assumes only the most cursory
knowledge of the Christian faith. Dr. Howell will lead the
class in discussions of the history and basis of our
Christian beliefs and practices. All are welcome.
The Purpose Driven Life: Led by Rev. Dave Mills. Have
you got it all together? Are you disoriented about the
direction of your life? Do you find decisions difficult to
make? The weekly group discussion-study session that are
focused on Rick Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life",
will help you focus your steps in the right path.
The Beatitudes: Led by Dr. Mark Fentress
"Blessed are the poor in spirit...." So begins the lesson
taught by Jesus to the crowds gathered on the mountainside.
(See Matthew 5.) The Beatitudes, as the lesson has come to
be known, will be the topic of this course. For more
details, see the Bethany Bash brochure available August 13.
The Ark Narrative: The Journey of God's Glory Led by
Dr. Jo Locklair. The much-neglected Ark Narrative is often
thought to be the oldest composition of the Book of Samuel.
The text traces the three-day story of the capture of the
Ark of God by the Philistines, its retention and, finally
its return to Israel.
Financial Investments: Led by William F. Ruddy. This
class is for individual investors who want to learn more
about setting realistic financial goals, making wise
investment decisions and avoiding unexpected financial
risks. Topics include: How to know the risks of investments,
how to reduce federal income taxes, why investing seems
confusing, and how to choose an investment representative. A
$14.00 student fee will cover course materials.
MBS: Management by Scripture: Led by Brad Davis. This
program promotes the understanding of other people and
treating them the way the want to be treated. MBS links the
4 primary personality traits to those of the 4 gospels.
Creative Crafts: Led by Lynn Dukes. You will learn to
do raggedy edge applique, primitive embroidery and some
quilting to create an attractive Low Country all hanging.
Sewing ability not required. $5.00 fee for a kit. Bring
basic sewing supplies.
Woodcarving: Led by Sarah Kuhnell. Woodcut or relief
carving can be an end in itself, or the carving can be inked
and transferred to paper in a printing process. In this
class we will learn design transfer to create the design and
add texture, inking, and printing a set of simple designs.
Jewelry/Polymer Clay Class: Led by Joyce Becwar. This
class with show you how to make items from polymer clay. All
the items made will be donated to the Autumn Tea Room Gift
Shop. No fees for this course.
