Objectives:
Bethany
CDC's Kindergarten objectives are to help each child develop a
positive self-image and to be ready for entrance into the
first grade. This is accomplished by providing a wide variety
of appropriate materials, activities and experiences that
facilitate learning at the child's own developmental pace.
The goals of
these learning experiences are defined by the S.C. Department
of Education Kindergarten Standards, which are thoroughly
addressed through the program. Bethany then expands on these
standards through many field trips, opportunities for creative
expression, art and music experiences, and individualized
instruction to develop the "whole" child.
Our
kindergarten program is one in which learning is fun and
purposeful and is based on clearly defined goals developed
through children's interests and needs.
Curriculum:
The Bethany Curriculum is centered on the
developmental needs and interests of five-year-olds, aiming to
foster growth in the areas of social, emotional, physical,
spiritual and academic development. Recognizing that young
children learn best by first-hand experiences, instructional
activities are formulated to include "hands-on" experiences as
much as possible and practical.
Both
small and large group instruction, with individual instruction
as needed, is supported by high-interest learning centers. The
classroom program is augmented by field trips and visits by
community professionals. The philosophy of widely-recognized
and successful programs such as "Saxon Math," "AIMS"
(math/science) and "STEPS" (phonetics/reading/writing) is
foundational. These programs are supported by wonderful
literacy materials from Rigby.
Time for
small and large motor activities and science and social
studies experiences is incorporated into the curriculum
design. Creative expression is encouraged in all
areas. Spiritual nurturing seeks to develop an appreciation
for the presence of God in the world and the lives of all
people, thereby helping children realize the importance of
each person as one of God's special creations.
