Our congregation is governed by a
Church Council that has charge of the temporal and
spiritual affairs of the congregation. Our ministry is
envisioned and implemented by a host of councils, boards and
committees, each assigned to a special aspect of our overall
mission. Our structure is designed to allow each member, in so
far as possible, to choose where he or she would like to serve
God and be assured a place on the ministry team of his or her
choice.
The Committee on Finance
handles our financial matters, the Board of Trustees
oversees our property, and the
Staff-Parish Relations Committee
gives direction to the personnel needs of the congregation for
clergy, as well as the professional and support staff.
At Bethany, it is our desire that
every member of the church have a place to use the gifts for
ministry that God has given him or her, and that we provide
training, guidance and support to the ideas for ministry that
emerge from our people as they pray and dream about who God
would have us be. We hope you will find YOUR place in our
ministry as well.
Bethany United Methodist Church is organized for
ministry as follows:
- The Senior Pastor
- The Church Council, which meets every other month.
Reporting to the Church Council are eight working
councils which manage and give oversight to the church’s
ministry in these particular areas:
- Council on Worship
- Council on Congregational Care
- Council on Education
- Council on Membership
- Council on Outreach
- Council on Leisure Ministries
- Council on Youth Ministries
- Council on Communications
Within each of these working councils are a number of
committees with specific responsibilities for particular areas
of ministry and service.
Supporting the work of these working ministry groups are
the administrative committees that provide vision, staff,
volunteers, financial resources and property management to
meet the ministry needs of the various areas of ministry at
Bethany.
The Long Range Planning Committee
meets continually to envision our ministry several years down
the road and recommend ministry direction and focus to the
Church Council.
The Staff-Parish Relations
Committee provides for staffing needs and
recommends new positions as well as support of existing
positions to the Church Council.
The Committee on Finance
is charged with providing for the adequate financial support
of all the ministries at Bethany. This committee has
responsibility for raising and managing the finances of the
congregation.
The Committee on Lay Leadership
is charged with the responsibility of supporting the church’s
ministry by recruiting volunteer lay leadership for all of the
leadership positions in the church.
The Board of Trustees
has responsibility for all matters of real property including
the buildings, church grounds, acquisition, mortgages and
other real property. The Trustees manage the property of the
church on behalf of the ministries of the congregation.
There is a place in this structure for all members to
become involved and bring their gifts for ministry to be used
in the life of the church.
